Bar Harbor RV Park is right on Chesapeake Bay. |
There were a lot of ducks, some geese and tons of squirrels. Our neighbors had to keep a tight leash on their dogs. |
Junior, Baby, Scott and I are on the road again! First we are heading south to Florida and then west to Arizona. This year we'll turn around there and drive back east to Texas and then home via Washington DC and my sister's in Maryland. Along the way we are visiting family and friends. We'll stay in State and National Parks, Harvest Host locations and assorted RV Parks.
After leaving Paula in Maryland we headed down to Walt & Honoree Cooper's home in Carthage, NC. Baby settled into Site #1 in front of their home, one of her all time favorites! |
After a wonderful Christmas week with our children Josh, James and Sean and their families - 15 of us overall and all staying in our house, we left on December 29th. After the last two years of digging Baby out of multiple feet of snow, we left her down in Maryland in late October. So it was just Junior and ourselves packed full of too many things! And of course, there was no snow. But we had a miserable trip despite the good weather. One and one half hours into the trip. Scott thought we had left the trailer hitch in the garage. Three hours of extra driving and a futile half hour searching later, we were back on track. We had left the hitch down at the trailer in Maryland!

After exploring Sandhills Horticultural Center we had an impromptu dance while enjoying a singer/guitarist in the exhibit hall. That's Walt and Honoree in the background |
So 11 hours later we stopped to visit Paula in her long term health care facility and then settled into Baby again. The Bar Harbor RV Resort in Belhaven, MD is right on the Chesapeake and a pretty spot. We've been there a number of times now and enjoy it. We had five days visiting Paula and trying to sort out her finances. Each morning and evening we brought special meals for her, a nice change from the pedestrian food at the facility. She is working on regaining some movement in her legs and we hope someday will regain more mobility.
After one night at a convenient RV park in Ashland, VA we arrived at our long time friends Walt and Honoree's in Carthage, NC. We first met them on our boats in Trinidad back in 2006 and have since traveled together in Peru, and Europe for months at a time. We had three nights to talk and enjoy delicious meals. During the day we had lovely walks and explored the area. On Saturday night we had a wonderful time at a dinner party with lots of their Pickle Ball friends. All too soon, it was time to head off south again, next to Pawley's Island, SC to see Kate and Stephen Kelley.
The Camillas at Sandhills were spectacular |
Holly trees are everywhere on the Cooper property and at the gardens. |
Walt & Honoree in front of this natural fiber sculpture at these gardens and last year, at the Naples Botanical Gardens. |
We had lunch at the famous Pinehurst Resort and loved this gingerbread village there. |
Here's a section of the lobby. It's an enormous hotel founded in 1895 and host to many golf tournaments on it's Donald Ross designs golf courses. . |
